The Association The role of the association is to provide independent living options for older people (55 years and older) in the Lilydale District which encompasses Lilydale, Karoola, Underwood, Lebrina, Pipers River and surrounds. The association was formed in the late 1970’s, when the local communities first identified the need for Retirement Units. The first four units were built in 1984, two further units in 1988 and the Administration of the Association is controlled by a volunteer Board of Management. Associations Objectives To take all necessary steps to ensure the provision of suitable retirement accommodation for the over 55 age group in the Lilydale District. To manage retirement accommodation for the target group. To work co-operatively with Local, State and Federal Governments and their associated Departments to access grant funding for the provision of additional retirement accommodation for the target group.

Selection of Tenants The Welfare Officer on the Board of Management holds a waiting list. Names are entered on the list in order of approach to the Board. When an approach is made, the Welfare Officer will reply in writing to the Applicant. Prospective tenants are to be contacted annually to check their interest in occupancy. When a vacancy occurs, the next name on the waiting list is contacted. The Board of Management reserve the right to fill vacancies at their discretion in exceptional circumstances, irrespective of the position on the waiting list. The Board of Management at their discretion may refuse an application if it deems that the applicant is unsuitable as a tenant. The prospective tenant is required to abide by the terms of the Tenancy Agreement and the stated Board Policies. Termination of Occupancy—in the event that such a circumstance arise, the matter will be dealt with by the Board of Management, with if deemed necessary, an independent arbitrator or mediator.
